The Legend of Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa — the small, frail Catholic nun from Macedonia in the Balkans — became one of the most beloved Christians of our generation for her work in bringing help to suffering humanity.
Even after she grew old, she continued to be a champion of those less fortunate and, for that benevolence, she won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.
Although her work is legendary and an example for all of us to follow, I want to share my favorite Mother Teresa story with you the readers.
Many years ago during a flight from South America to Mexico City, the stewardess prepared to serve lunch to about fifty passengers. When she handed the sack lunch to Mother Teresa, the little nun asked her, “How much did this lunch cost the airline today?”
Somewhat surprised, the stewardess thought for a moment, then replied, “About one dollar.”
“Could I give my lunch back and receive a dollar from the airline to help feed the poor?
The stewardess didn’t know what to do so she asked the pilot and he said that would be okay.
Most of the other passengers on the flight that day saw what Mother Teresa had done and they, too, asked if they could return their lunches and receive the money to give to Mother Teresa to help feed the poor. Again, the stewardess agreed.
When the flight landed in Mexico City, the stewardess gave the money to Mother Teresa and as he was leaving the plane she met the pilot. “Sir, what now will you do with all the food that the passengers returned?”
The pilot said it would be thrown away.
“Would it be possible for me to have that food to feed the poor children in an orphanage here in Mexico City?”
The pilot must have smiled when he realized what she had done. He agree to give her all the food and even provided one of the airline’s trucks to take the food to the orphanage.

Jesus once said that if we his followers even give someone in need a cup of cold water in his name, we will be rewarded.
Mother Teresa traveled the world following in the footsteps of Jesus doing her best to take care of the homeless, the outcasts of society, the forgotten men and women — and children.
Here are some of the things she accomplished before she passed on to her reward in 1997 as noted in Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia:
She founded the Missionaries of Charity which included 4,500 sisters who were active in 133 countries. These faithful nuns minister to those dying in hospices, and have homes for those suffering from HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis.
They also operate soup kitchens to feed thousands of homeless, medical dispensaries, mobile health clinics, orphanages, schools and family counseling programs.
The Missionaries of Charity take vows of chastity, poverty and obedience and vow to give “wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor.”

Note: Bill’s novel entitled The Magic Bullet, an action-packed thriller, is now available on Amazon and Amazon/Kindle.
