The crush of bodies on a hot, dirty street; pressing, looking, reaching. Filthy mud, made of blood and dust, sticking to the feet of a distraught woman whose bleeding had not stopped in a dozen years.

This broken woman was seeking Jesus, but he was moving away, headed through the unrelenting crowd to bring relief to another.

But she would not be denied. Having heard of other broken ones who had touched Jesus and were healed, she pressed on, believing she could be healed as well.

Fighting her way closer, she finally was near enough to reach between others and brush her fingers against the back of Jesus’ garment.

Instantly something changed. The unwelcome bleeding didn’t just slow; it completely stopped. Right there in a mass of humanity, she received her miracle.

In this story, there are several things that bring me hope. First, is the persistent faith of a woman who never gave up. If I have a headache for more than a half-hour, I’m running for aspirin — but in spite of serious affliction for over a decade, she was pressing on, trusting that God had not abandoned her.

I’m also struck by the accessibility of Jesus. He was not being carried on a throne above the masses. He did not have bodyguards keeping the sick away. Even though he was surrounded to the point of being crushed by the crowds, he could be reached by the one seeking him.

And I’m most taken by the reality that this was not a God-directed miracle. While we find plenty of those in the Gospels, in this setting Jesus was actually headed away from the woman when she was healed. He was not seeking her out, yet she accessed God’s power just the same. I find hope here because sometimes I feel like God is headed away from me when I need him most. While theologically I know this isn’t the case (he has promised to never leave or forsake me), practically it can feel this way.

So this is a strong reminder: even when it seems God is not setting out to bring his power my way, I still have access to it. Just as this woman was made whole because of her faith in Jesus, I can press through whatever (or whoever!) is standing between me and a miracle, trusting God to meet my need.

Are there places in your life where it feels like God is absent, where it seems he’s moving away from you rather than toward you? Don’t give up and don’t give in to discouragement. Keep fighting. Keep pursuing him.

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” (Hebrews 10:35-36)

When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, ² saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. ³ If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” ⁴ This ^[a]took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

⁵ “Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold your King is coming to you,
Gentle, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

⁶ The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, ⁷ and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on ^[b]the coats. ⁸ Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. ⁹ The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,

“Hosanna to the Son of David;

¹² And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. ¹³ And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ ^[c]den.”

¹⁴ And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.¹⁵ But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to theSon of David,” they became indignant ¹⁶ and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus *said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?” ¹⁷ And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.

¹⁸ Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.¹⁹ Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He *said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.

²⁰ Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” ²¹ And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. ²² And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

²³ When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?” ²⁴ Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one ^[d]thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?” And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ ²⁶ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the ^[e]people; for they all regard John as a prophet.” ²⁷ And answering Jesus, they said, “We do not know.” He also said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

²⁸ “But what do you think? A man had two ^[f]sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘^[g]Son, go work today in the vineyard.’ ²⁹ And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went. ³⁰ The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?” They *said, “The first.” Jesus *said to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes ^[h]will get into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.

‘The stone which the builders rejected,
This became the chief corner stone;
This came about from the Lord,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?

⁴³ Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a ^[m]people, producing the fruit of it. ⁴⁴ And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”

⁴⁵ When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. ⁴⁶ When they sought to seize Him, theyfeared the ^[n]people, because they considered Him to be a prophet.

^28 [t]When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; ²⁹ for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Then I looked, and behold, the Lamb was standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads.

And I heard a voice from heaven, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps.

And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one could learn the song except the one hundred and forty-four thousand who had been purchased from the earth.

These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they have kept themselves chaste. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been purchased from among men as first fruits to God and to the Lamb.

And no lie was found in their mouth; they are blameless.

And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people;

and he said with a loud voice, “Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters.”

And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her immorality.”

Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand,

he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

“And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!"” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them.”

Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, having a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.

And another angel came out of the temple, crying out with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is ripe.”

Then He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.

And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle.

Then another angel, the one who has power over fire, came out from the altar; and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, because her grapes are ripe.”

So the angel swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth, and threw them into the great wine press of the wrath of God.

And the wine press was trodden outside the city, and blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, for a distance of two hundred miles.

3. Paul worshiped both God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ who he says (from prison) had blessed the Ephesian Christians and himself“ with every spiritual blessing in the Heavenly places in Christ.” Underline in your understanding that we Christians (an extension of these Ephesians because the Bible is intended for every Christian throughout the ages) ARE RIGHT NOW receiving “EVERY spiritual blessing in the Heavenly places in Christ.”It is typical of Christians today to greatly question any hard moments in their lives. That is because they haven’t fully grasped the heart of Romans 8:28 – “ALL things work TOGETHER for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.” Especially important in that verse are the words ALL and TOGETHER. It is not only the precious, wonderful, obviously blessed moments in life that a Christian should praise God for. The terrible moments, the hard days, weeks, months or years may seem chaotic to us but they are of every purpose in Christ to make us individually who we are meant to become IF we don’t despair and give up our faith in what Christ is doing (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Remember, God made this beautiful world out of chaos. To be blessed with every spiritual blessing is something those without Christ cannot experience.

As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth.

And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”

Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

“We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.


“While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.”

When He had said this, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to his eyes,

and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.

Therefore the neighbors, and those who previously saw him as a beggar, were saying, “Is not this the one who used to sit and beg?”

Others were saying, “This is he,” still others were saying, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am the one.”

So they were saying to him, “How then were your eyes opened?”

He answered, “The man who is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash"; so I went away and washed, and I received sight.”

They said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.”

They brought to the Pharisees the man who was formerly blind.

Now it was a Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.

Then the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, “He applied clay to my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”

Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, “This man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying, “How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?” And there was a division among them.

So they said to the blind man again, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said, “He is a prophet.”

The Jews then did not believe it of him, that he had been blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of the very one who had received his sight,

and questioned them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?”

His parents answered them and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.”

His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.

For this reason his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”

So a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, “Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.”

He then answered, “Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”

So they said to him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”

He answered them, “I told you already and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?”

They reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

“We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where He is from.”

The man answered and said to them, “Well, here is an amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes.

“We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.

“Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind.

“If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

They answered him, “You were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?” So they put him out.

Jesus heard that they had put him out, and finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

He answered, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”

Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and He is the one who is talking with you.”

And he said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshiped Him.

And Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.”

Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, “We are not blind too, are we?”

Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.

After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Tiberias).

A large crowd followed Him, because they saw the signs which He was performing on those who were sick.

Then Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat down with His disciples.

Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.

Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?”

This He was saying to test him, for He Himself knew what He was intending to do.

Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for everyone to receive a little.”

One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,

“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many people?”

Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

Jesus then took the loaves, and having given thanks, He distributed to those who were seated; likewise also of the fish as much as they wanted.

When they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing will be lost.”

So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.

Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone.

Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,

and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea to Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.

The sea began to be stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.

Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened.

But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”

So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

The next day the crowd that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there, except one, and that Jesus had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone.

There came other small boats from Tiberias near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus.

When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You get here?”

Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

“Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.”

Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?”

Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”

So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?

“Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT."”

Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.

“For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”

Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

“But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.

“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.

“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of heaven.”

They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?”

Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves.

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.

“It is written in the prophets, ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.

“Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.

“I am the bread of life.

“Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.

“This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.

“I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”

Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.

“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

“For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.

“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

“As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me.

These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.

Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?”

But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?

“What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

“But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.

And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”

As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.

So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”

Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

“We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”

Jesus answered them, “Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?”

Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him.

After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes.

In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, [waiting for the moving of the waters;

for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.]

A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.

When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?”

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.”

Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

So the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet.”

But he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk."”

They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’?”

But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place.

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.”

For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

“For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.

“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.

“For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,

so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

“For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;

and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

“Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,

and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

“I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

“If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true.

“There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.

“You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

“But the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.

“He was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

“But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish–the very works that I do–testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me.

“And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.

“You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent.

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;

and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

“I do not receive glory from men;

but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.

“I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

“How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?

“Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.

“For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.

“But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

Therefore when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John

(although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were),

He left Judea and went away again into Galilee.


And He had to pass through Samaria.

So He came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph;

and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

She said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?

“You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?”

Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;

but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.”

He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”

The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband";

for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.

“Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”

Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

At this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?”

So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men,

“Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”

They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.

Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”

But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”

So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?”

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.

“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.

“Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

“For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’

“I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”

From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.”

So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.

Many more believed because of His word;

and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.”

After the two days He went forth from there into Galilee.

For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast.

Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum.

When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.

So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.”

The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

Jesus said to him, “Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off.

As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living.

So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and his whole household.

This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a census be taken of all the inhabited Earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because it was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was with child.

While they were there the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.

In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for the day in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

When the Angels had gone away from them into Heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us. So they came in a hurry and found their way to Marion Joseph and the baby as he lay in the manger. When they had seen this they made known the statement which it been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. the shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen just as had been told them.

And when eight days had passed before His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. And when the day is for his purification according to the Law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, then he took him into his arms and blessed God, and said, “Now Lord, You are releasing Your bondservant to depart in peace, according to Your word; for my eye’s have seen Your salvation which you have prepared in the presence of all His people’s, a light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.” And his father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him. And Simeon blessed them and sent to Mary His mother, “Behold this child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed – and the sword will pierce even your own soul – to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be renewed.”

And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Pheneul, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then as a widow to the aged eighty-four. She never left the Temple serving night and day with fastings and prayers. At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all of those who are looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

When they performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city of Nazareth. The Child continued to grow and become a strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

Hello America. Hello world.

From the headquarters of reachmorenow.com in Fort Worth, Texas, this is Ray Mossholder and this is the news.

 

This prayer request came from my friend Giff Claiborne. He writes:

We received these two emails from missionary friends, one yesterday and one this morning. I pass it on so that people can pray specifically for our brothers and sisters.

This is so sad. A friend from Ohio just got a text message from her brother asking her to shower him and his parish in prayer. He is part of a mission team and ISIS has taken over the town they are in today. He said ISIS is systematically going house to house to all the Christians and asking the children to denounce Jesus. He said so far not one child has. And so far all have consequently been killed. But not the parents. The UN has withdrawn and the missionaries are on their own. They are determined to stick it out for the sake of the families – even if it means their own deaths.

Our friend is very afraid. He has no idea how to even begin ministering to these families who have seen their children martyred. Yet he says he knows God has called him for some reason to be His voice and hands at this place at this time. Even so, he is begging prayers for his courage to live out his vocation in such dire circumstances. And like the children, accept martyrdom if he is called to do so. He asked me to ask everyone we know to please pray for him and his wife. These brave parents instilled such a fervent faith in their children that they chose martyrdom.

Please surround them in their loss with your prayers for hope and perseverance. Our friend in Ohio was able to talk to her missionary brother briefly by phone. She didn’t say it but I believe she believes it will be their last conversation. Pray for her too.

She said he just kept asking her to help him know what to do and do it. She told him to tell the families we ARE praying for them and they are not alone or forgotten — no matter what.

Her email broke my heart. Please keep all in your prayers.

Then this came

This morning, just a few minutes ago I received the following text message on my phone from Sean Malone who leads Crisis Relief International (CRI). We then spoke briefly on the phone and I assured him that we would share this urgent prayer need with all of our contacts.

Here’s what Sean told me: “We lost the city of Queragosh (Qaraqosh). It fell to ISIS and they are beheading children systematically. This is the city we have been smuggling food too. ISIS has pushed back Peshmerga (Kurdish forces) and is within 10 minutes of where our CRI team is working.

Thousands more fled into the city of Erbil last night. The UN evacuated it’s staff in Erbil. Our team is unmoved and will stay. Prayer cover needed!”

 

Please pray sincerely for the deliverance of the people of Northern Iraq from the terrible advancement of ISIS and its extreme Islamic goal for mass conversion or death for Christians across this region.

After Giff sent his e-mail, he received this email in return from another friend of his – Ted Beckett. It is one of the finest

 

Giff:

Thank you for informing Audrey and me of the exceptional need of believing intercession for the brave souls with Crisis Relief International, and others ministering in the city of Qaragosh, Iraq.  I was touched by one request that the ladies brother kept repeating “She said, he just kept asking her to help him know what to do and do it”.

In my view, faced with a similar, dire situation, Jesus, Peter or Paul, would have rebuked the territorial evil spirits that were driving the ISIS forces and command them to withdraw.  As believers, our war is not with the individual soldiers doing their grisly work, it is with the evil spirits driving them to do it.

After considering this issue carefully, I sensed that all of us praying about this matter, as well as the brave minister in Iraq should stand on 3 vital Scriptures that are most appropriate for this critical situation.

1.  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; Mark 16:17

2.  Behold, I (Jesus) give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

     3. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,      against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Ephesians 6:12

Some ministers erroneously teach that Christians should refrain from rebuking these demonic authorities.  But God’s Word is clear on this issue and when believers timidly cease from taking their God given authority, the enemy runs roughshod over them like he is doing in Qaragosh.  The Lord even provided a promise of immunity from counter-attack in Luke 10:19.

Also, ISIS is the name of a very important god of that region.  ISIS was considered “more powerful than a thousand soldiers”.  Because ISIS’ name means, literally, “throne” in the Ancient Egyptian language, she is usually represented with a throne as a depiction of her power.  I do not believe it is a coincidence that the militant Islamic army attempting to reestablish a “throne” in the region came up with the name ISIS.  All intercessors should bind the Isis demon.  Included is a depiction of that evil spirit.

Another way to pray for this situation is to ask the Lord to convict every ISIS foot-soldier of the absurdity of the belief that he will earn a place in heaven by raping women and decapitating innocent children.  If we as believers remove the blindness from their eyes, these murderers will begin to abandon ISIS.

Pray that these butchers will be considered a laughing stock and the scum of the Muslim community.

Pray that US and allied bombers accuracy will be true to wipe out the command and control centers of ISIS and their leadership.  Pray for the Lord to convict them with dreams of Jesus.  We as believers need to awake and become proactive on this issue.

I would also encourage the brother in Qaragosh to minister to whatever children may be left. Make sure they have accepted Jesus and are all born again believers, filled with the Holy Spirit and being taught the Word.  Mobilize these children into prayer teams armed with the authority of the Holy Spirit and commanding the evil spirits to come out of the demonically controlled black-robed cowards.  Matthew 21:15
