LB–TK: Darkening Skies Chs 3&4 The Chase, Tragic News

Judd and Lionel don’t know what to think. Samuel, who once gave Judd a video showing the killing of Rabbi Ben Judah’s family, seemingly turned on them in front of his father who is a worker with Global Community. But that was just in front of his father. As soon as the three teenagers were away from his dad, he gave Judd a piece of paper with the address of a safe house where they could hide. That’s where they are now in the home of Jamal. Meanwhile, GC police have accused Buck of murder and he is being hunted along with Rabbi Ben Judah.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, Melinda ran off from the Young Tribulation Force and has just been arrested by the GC police. Ray picks the story up at this point.

MARK parked his cycle and walked past a few stores. He wondered if Melinda had told the peacekeepers about the Young Trib Force and their hideout. He studied shop windows as he listened to the squawking radios.

“Still waiting for the fingerprint ID,” one officer said.

“She sure looks like the photo,” another said. “Wonder how she wound up here?”

Mark walked into a small grocery store and watched the GC officers through the window. He bought a pack of gum and asked the girl at the cash register what happened.

“She ran in here out of breath,” the girl said. “Real dirty. Looked like she’d spent the night in the woods. I figured it was one of those women who escaped from the GC prison I’ve been hearing about on the news.”

“There was a breakout?” Mark said.

“Yeah. One of those reeducation camps or whatever you call them. When that girl saw the squad car go by, she freaked. Hid behind one of the aisles back there. I went outside and flagged ’em down.”

“You’re pretty much a hero,” Mark said.

The girl blushed. “I didn’t do nothin’. Just figured she had to be guilty of something, the way she acted.”

Mark thanked the girl and left. A small bell rang as he opened the door, and the Peacekeepers glanced at him. Mark walked the other way.

The radio squawked. “Here’s the report,” a man said. “We have a negative on the downstate facility. Your girl is MM-1215, Melinda Bentley.” The man read off more information about Melinda. “You’re instructed to interrogate, then carry out GC order X-13.”

The peacekeepers looked at each other. “Can you repeat that?”

“Interrogate and carry out an X-13. Over.”

The peacekeeper sighed. “Ten four, we copy. Out.”

Mark didn’t know what an X-13 was, but it didn’t sound good for Melinda. He turned the corner and walked his motorcycle closer. He wanted to hear the GC question Melinda.

“We know who you are,” a peacekeeper said. “Who’s been hiding you?”

“I was staying with some friends,” Melinda said.

“Who?”

LB-TK Darkening Skies Chapters 1&2 Under The Stage, Samuel’s Deception

JUDD gently lowered the guard’s head to the ground, knowing the man had died trying to protect Buck Williams and the others in the Tribulation Force. Footsteps continued to pound on the stage above them. Lionel grabbed the guard’s walkie-talkie. “Come on. We have to get out of here!” Judd and Lionel rolled under the stage and held their breath. The radio squawked in Lionel’s hand. He turned it down.

Two guards jumped from the stage and felt for a pulse on the downed guard. One barked into his radio, “He’s dead, sir.” A voice shot back, “Find the rabbi and those others. I want them dead before they get out of the stadium!”

Judd whispered to Lionel, “We’ve got to stop them!” But before Judd could move, another voice blared on the guard’s radio. “We’ve spotted them in a Mercedes a few blocks from the stadium, sir.” “Probably headed to the Rosenzweig estate,” another voice said. “After them!”

Judd sighed. “Nothing we can do now.”

The stadium was nearly empty. A few stragglers knelt near the stage, praying. Medical personnel attended to the injured. Judd and Lionel watched from the shadows as GC peacekeepers dragged the dead guard away. A cameraman flipped on a light, and a reporter stepped in front of it. “We are live at Teddy Kollek Stadium,” the reporter said. “Just moments ago, this Global Community peacekeeper was murdered at the conference called the Meeting of the Witnesses. Those in the audience listened to a message of love and peace, but it seems someone did not follow their leader’s teaching.”

“No way one of the witnesses shot that guard,” Lionel said.

Judd gritted his teeth. “Carpathia will make Tsion look—”

“What?” Lionel said.

Judd spied a heavyset boy near the front row. “I know that kid,” he said.

When the Global Community guards were gone, Judd and Lionel crept from under the stage and approached the boy. The boy’s mouth dropped open. “Judd,” the boy said, “what are you doing here?”

“How do I know you?” Judd said.

JUDD raised his hands and knelt with the others. Melinda pointed her gun around and tried to support Felicia, who was pale and almost unconscious, her head hanging. “On your faces!” Melinda shouted. Charlie, Vicki’s weird friend, wandered in, holding a candle. His eyes grew large when he recognized the two Morale Monitors. “I didn’t know the water was bad, I promise!”

“On the floor!” Melinda yelled. What had Conrad and Lionel told Judd about the girls? He knew they were fiercely loyal to the Global Community and their leader, Commander Blancka. Vicki said she thought the GC had turned on them and wanted them dead. Judd watched for his chance to surprise them. “You don’t have to do this,” Vicki said. “We’re not going to hurt you.” “Shut up!” Melinda shouted. She stared at Vicki. “You guys all look weird. What happened to your hair?” Melinda let go of Felicia, and the girl fell to the floor. Mr. Stein was still kneeling with his hands folded in prayer.

Melinda fired into the ceiling, and plaster fell. “I said, on the ground!” Nine of us, two of them , Judd thought. If we rush Melinda, we can overpower her, but someone might get killed . Judd caught Lionel’s eye. Lionel clenched his teeth and shook his head. Vicki crawled toward Felicia and put a hand on her neck. “Touch her and you die!” Melinda said, pointing the gun at Vicki. Judd lurched forward, but Melinda quickly put the gun in his face. “You want it first, Thompson?” Mark grabbed Judd’s ankles.

Left Behind- The Kids: Battling The Commander Chs. 4&5 Conrad and the Commander, Lionel’s Run

The next morning a different guard returned for Conrad. Darrion had been gone all night.

“Don’t believe anything he says,” Mr. Stein yelled as the man led Conrad away.

Melinda and Felicia waited outside the interview room and scowled when Conrad sat beside them.

“I wanted to tell you guys what was up, but I didn’t want to blow my cover,” Conrad said.

“What are you talking about?” Melinda asked.

“The commander put me down there so I could listen to those to talk,” he said. “I got what he wanted.”

“I don’t believe you,” Felicia said. “You’re one of them.”

“I was just as surprised as you when Lionel turned up dirty.”

The girls turned away.

“I need your help,” Conrad said, moving where he could see them. “I’m going to catch Lionel, the girl, and that other guy.”

The door opened. Commander Blanca came outside. “What is this, Graham?”

“Commander, Sir, I figured since I was innocent, you put me in with the others to spy. It worked.”

The commander cleared his throat. “I didn’t. I mean… what did you find out?”

“Darrion’s definitely one of them, sir,” Conrad answered.

“We’ve had someone talking to her all night,” the commander said. “She says she doesn’t know them.”

“If it’s all right with you, I’d like to see the look on her face when I tell you the whole story,” Conrad said.

The commander motioned the three inside. Darrion looked exhausted. Her eyes were puffy and red. The commander probably talked about her parents, Conrad thought.

Conrad knew this would be the tough part. If he could convince the commander he wasn’t partners with the others, he had a chance to get Darrion and Mr. Stein out.

Judgment Day: Chs. 5&6 – The River, Over the Edge

Judd and Vicki have stolen Captain Blanca’s Jeep in an attempt to get away from him and the Global Police. Lionel has stayed with Captain Blanca to keep them off his friend’s trail. The captain still believes Lionel is working with him. Judd is driving the Jeep away from the captain now. Ray picks the story up at this point.
